new year's

on new year's eve while waiting for the fireworks (sydney will have the best nye display in the world, as per usual = WIN) i will do many things to pass the time. which will go oh so slowly but in a lovely way at the same time.

hopefully my ipod's batteries will last the whole day
i will be listening to:

eugene mcguinness
the best rock guy ever. his music has the same feel as the arctic monkeys but is much more complex and less bogan. kind of like mystery jets but instead of being young and whiny, he's a bit more dark and sophisticated.
julian casablanas' old demos
god damn when i heard the demo version of you only live once, called i'll try anything once, in the trailer for sophia coppola's new film, somewhere, i was like oh god this friendship will never cease to amaze me. that new yorker group of musicians and film makers is so fricking awesome. and their forces combined are comparable to the power rangers or the planeteers.
supergrass
there's something attractive about danny goffey despite his lack of chin. which this photo hides quite well....well he hides it by sticking his head out forward (on the left...DAMN IT I MEANT RIGHT....RIIIIIIGHT)
vampire weekend
saw them on tv the other day. at the glastonbury festival or something? i was sitting with my parents and they really liked them and asked me who they were. despite me making them listen to their cd at least five times now.
radiohead
oh god. nuff said.
blur
the best looking band to come out of england. disputed only by the beatles, but they had charm
i will be reading:
scott pilgrim...again (yes jenna :O again...graphic novels don't count)
slam dunk
one of my favourite cartoons as a child
it should be a good day filled with lots of peaceful waiting; listening to music and reading graphic novels, and eating just to pass time

so for new year's
don't be like that guy from the social network (hot):
be with some friends
...or a pet
...at least a rock that you can throw around

appropriate

what constitutes the difference between appropriation and plagiarism?
what is: appropriate?

firstly band photos and album covers.

the original:
parallel lines by blondie (wow there are a shitload of people in blondie. all the guys always blend into three or so in my head, they all look the same)
the copies:
garbage (what seedy disgusting bald men)...
and a frightful cross dressing blur
(alex james and graham coxon on the left actually make my life worth living)
everytime i walked into jb hi-fi the other summer, i felt like i was at the optometrist:
eminem
Vs. james blunt
next up: abbey road by the beatles, which has actually been redone so many times, not even chuck norris could count the remakes
sesame street
the simpsons
pocoyo (cuuute)
let it be by the beatles. everyone has a shirt of this from ses. i have two.
fuck the beatles are awesome.
blur (serial copiers)
cartoon
old
hot
dirty (well the top two anyway. graham in the bottom right looks like an absolute angel. fuck i would tap that.)
gorillaz (i see a common factor here. blur/gorillaz = damon albarn. maybe it's just the mind of damon albarn that has to copy.)
the original: joan jett (she sure does love rock 'n' roll...urgh...filth)
the copy: vince noir (that booshing douche)

susan boyle dreaming
hurley, by weezer, rocking out
justin bieber kind of looks like a fag
and wolfmother's new album kind of looks like a vag (DA BIIIIG DOUBLE-U)
i would move into the sound of the music as well as the pictures. but that can wait until another day cos i would actually orgasm at the fun-ness and amount of music analysis.

geeky chic

masters of:

buddy holly. (nerd of rock 'n' roll)
graham coxon. (blur. coffee and tv video clip. cute milk dude. nuff said)

jon heder. (napoleon dynamite. helmet hair. fluent in japanese)
rivers cuomo. (yes that is a weezer snuggie)

christopher gorham.
charlieissocoollike aka charliiiiiieeeee mcdonnell. (from the internets)

check out that girl in the right bottom corner having a heart attack: "I FOUND CHARLIEISSOCOOLLIKE!!!"
hexachordal aka tom firely aka tom milsom. (from my sex lair)

tom milsom and charlie mcdonnell together. (they have a internet band together called sons of admirals. haven't checked them out. only their individual solo stuff. i quite like tom milsom)

and michael cera.
(ok i admit it. this whole thing was a sham to lead up to another excuse to put michael cera all over this space. the scott pilgrim post is at the bottom of the page...and it'll go away sooooon)
i'm pretty sure i nudged jenna a little too hard in the cinema when the little scott pilgrim head appeared. and i was like "oh my god. he's gonna say he's gonna get a life and grab the head". and sure enough that's exactly what happened.
michael cera's whole wardrobe is quite similar. BUT FUCKING ACE. a man who can mix and match well is a man with a ticket into my pants.

which leads me to the awesome shirts in scott pilgrim
(the red one with the guitar is shown above):

four and a half
match pik usa
weird circle thing
plumtree (it's a band)
W.W polo shirt (wallace wells - the gay roommate)
scott and ramona's matching outfits:

collars, pockets and ringed shirts.
ok there wasn't many shots of them together during the final fight. but scott is wearing a green shirt with a heart on it that says SP inside. it's actually a smashing pumpkins band shirt. but obviously it's significant cos SP = scott pilgrim and he is fighting for love etc etc. and ramona's hair is green. (also, check out the gaming stats on the bottom of the screen...sex)

pixel skull
i'm pretty sure they were aiming to make this shot as yellow as possible
nerdfighters are go.
