soupé opera

stop motion + vegetables + ridiculous opera singing = win
when i was a kid, the abc had a short show called soupé opera.
i just looked it up. took me a while to find it cos i had no idea what it was called and there weren't any words or characters in it. but the winning tag in the google search was opera singing.

i recommend youtubing it if you haven't seen it.
it's really cool and funny.
every episode starts with vegetables in a basket.
you hear a lady singing soupé opera in operatic tones in a middle to high register. so not too high a sound.
then a 4/4 electronic beat is played with rhythmic tribal sounding grunts. and the vegetables started moving, dancing if you will and creating an animal.
this animal would then move around doing cool stuff
and after that, a new basket of vegetables appeared and the process started again.
this repetition happened two times, so including the first, it happened three times.
every time, the opera lady would sing soupé opera at a higher pitch.

i remember thinking the fat lady would explode if she kept going and had heaps of fun trying to act it out. kids are great.

oh oh oh, and after this would be gogs. that really terrible claymation show set in prehistoric times with all the feral cavemen. the theme song was the baby crying. i remember that my ear drums would be ringing after these two songs in succession.

pictorials: 2nd edition

i probably should have broken up that intense playlist verbal vomit with some pictures.
so here are some:

the social network boys
the funny twin dude...
...and there's two of me.

james dean in rebel without a cause
i have this thing. i love looking back at people when i'm in a cinema. it's so funny to see everyone's faces all staring at the same spot. almost cult like. but it doesn't work very well when i'm in the back row :S

barney stinson; he is awesome. so freaking awesome. STINSON.
feel free to take a few breaks while reading the playlist vomit.

playlist

so i've been making playlists for my ipod cos i've taken up about 60gbs of the 160gbs so far and when i turn on shuffle, it gets the worst combinations possible (fuck you steve jobs. i hate apple. i hate apple. i hate apple. i hate apple. i hate apple. i hate apple. i still can't get itunes on this computer either. i hate apple. ps. i hate apple)

pps. damn you autocorrect is the funniest website i've come across in a while.

so anyway today i made a 90's playlist that includes all the best boy bands and girl bands like backstreet boys, 5ive, blue, spice girls, b*witched, s club 7 and more. music in this time was so plasticated and so many kids were exploited. all the tween pop stars must have been so fucked up. but man, it's great nostalgic listening. i used to dance around in boob tube tops, jumping on my bed and singing along. my sister and i used to make choreographed songs. i remember a really good one to "too close" by blue. that was the best dance ever. and i think at the end she gave me a piggyback and i pretended to lasso a cow or something. and we had cowboy hats. man that was so good. there's also a bit of 90's grunge (yeah that one nirvana song that everyone knows but can't name any others, guys, listen to the whole "nevermind" album. it's da bomb) the 90's playlist currently sits at about 70+ songs. here are a few good songs off the top of my head:
  1. as long as you love me - backstreet boys
  2. stop - spice girls
  3. c'est la vie - b*witched
  4. bring it all back - s club 7
  5. all rise - blue
  6. keep on moving - 5ive
i'm making an 80's playlist now. 80's music was mostly for me to laugh at; it's so melodramatic and fairy floss sounding. like everything has an insane amount of reverb or something. eg. foreigner drums; classic 80's sound. but after slaving away at this playlist, i have a greater respect for the 80's music scene. i knew there were good hits but the musicians are quite good and the songs are really clever. with good hooks and riffs. like the synth intro in take on me by aha. and the badass band the smiths. i love that the main singer used a bouquet of flowers as a mic to expose that the show they were playing on forced the bands to lip sync. a bit annoying that everyone loved them after 500 days of summer though. buuut, music is for all to share so YAY. i also love the fact that heaps of the band names match up with their song titles. eg. the cars have a song called "drive". the whole era is pure cheese. big hair, crazy outifts and massive multi-layer keys. village people, prince, elo, toto. wham!. this one is probably going to hit 90ish songs. here's a few highlights that i can remember right now:
  1. funkytown - pseudo echo (why not the original by lipps inc? well it's on the playlist too...buuuut these guys are totally hot. AND. they have a keytar THAT ACTUALLY LOOKS COOL. only one other being has ever gotten away with a keytar and that's demetri martin. HOT)
  2. punk rock girl - dead milkmen
  3. killing moon - echo and the bunnymen
  4. my sharona - the knack
  5. hip to be square - huey lewis and the news (my first high school best friend amy colla YES YOU i know who you are dating you filthy child, anyway her uncle is in this band. he plays like saxophone or keys or bass or something)
my next playlist will probably be the 2000's. or how i like to call it, the noughties.

my christmas casual job has been going really well. i don't think i've ever thought about shoes so much in my life. but now i know like everything. it's amazing. like the same shoe could be in about 5 colours, but they are all different, yet it's still the same shoe. and i think i like shoes even more than i used to. which is bad in a way. but the back room is awesome. it's catergorised so cool. and i love sliding the shelves. and fitting school shoes is surprisingly fun. the kids are so cute. and i'm a pedo so the tweens and teens are sooooo hot.

i just thought of nick and norah's infinite playlist. i finally watched it. i own the dvd and the soundtrack and it took me like three months to actually watch it. it was pretty good. the girl is kind of annoying and disappointedly unattractive. but at least i still had michael cera to perve on.
